E-Bay Prices

Recently E-Bay has become an important source for Dicksees. However I have only recently stated to record prices and the record starts with the third quarter of 2005. I estimate that, in future, it will become more important than all the auction houses put together and that the far more reasonable margins will attract more sellers and the lack of the iniquitous buyers premium will attract more buyers. Unfortunately occasionally sellers have some crazy ideas about prices, because they have seen it advertised at that price by a gallery. I suggest they try selling to the same gallery - the gap would even make some auction houses blush.
Update June 2006. Fewer Dicksees on e-bay in last two months but still too many people with ludicrous reserve and starting prices. Several reproductions are on offer, nearly all honestly described as re-strikes.
Sellers should note that coloured prints nearly always fetch less than B/W, because of "restrikeophobia" among collectors and often fail to sell. The goods offered may well be contemporaneous hand coloured prints but the value has been greatly diminished by the availability of the poor coloured restrikes.
Several items get re-offered, usually because the seller has set an unrealistic starting price or too high a reserve.
